NordicStories is a leading production company within TV- and filmproduction
Focus is on culture, art, drama, and documentaries. In the media landscape, this is a niche endeavor. For the audience, it is the broadest and most important.
Since its inception in 2010, the company has produced and broadcasted performances from the Norwegian National Opera, the National Theatre, and the Oslo Philharmonic to cinemas from Kristiansand to Berlevåg. The company has produced 30 drama episodes for NRK with «Trio» and «Rabalder», and delivered 5 seasons of «Smarter than a Fifth Grader?» for TV2. At the same time, documentaries like «Liv and Ingmar», about the relationship between Liv Ullmann and Ingmar Bergman, «Munch 150 Years», a documentary about Edvard Munch, and «Vikings vs Wolves», about the Oil Fund’s role today, have been released. And not least, «Nordland’s Jeanne d’Arc», about the resistance heroine Liv Grannes from Mosjøen, which was produced for both cinema and NRK-TV release.
In addition, theater productions such as «Peer Gynt» at the Norwegian Theatre, «Liv», about Liv Ullmann from the National Touring Theatre, and «Mio, My Mio» by Astrid Lindgren, from Trøndelag Theatre have found a wider audience through TV- productions. Short films such as «The Sun», based on Edvard Munch’s paintings and Edvard Grieg’s Piano Concerto, and three ballet films within the concept «Dance in Closed Rooms», choreographed by Jo Strømgren, featuring our international star musicians Leif Ove Andsnes, Truls Mørk, and Vilde Frang. During the pandemic, the company co-produced with the Metropolitan Opera in New York for a live TV-broadcast worldwide: «Met Stars Live in Concert» from Oscarshall Palace in Oslo, featuring Lise Davidsen.
In 2024, the company was responsible for the celebration of Czech composer Bedřich Smetana’s 200th anniversary from his birthplace of Litomysl, and most recently, Stock Fish Opera, where the people of the island Røst took their own story to Venice – about the encounter with a shipwrecked group of Italians who washed ashore in the Arctic in 1432.
